Response to Course Material 3 Oct 23

Looking at a text, I often feel as if insights into its meanings are obvious-- but only in hindsight. Although I'm getting better at reading literature for depth, I still feel as though I miss what's right in front of me. One of my goals for this year is to read a lot and stretch my abilities each time; that's started with The American Dream. Not only did I pick up on some subtleties, I also enjoyed the intellectual commentary on what I see as the consumerism tragedy still befalling Americans.
Though I've already studied Death of a Salesman in a previous class, my goal for this next segment will be on picking out even more layers of meanings.

  1. That is how it seemed to me. After we finisher the play, I wondered why it took me so long to get to the meaning of The American Dream.

I feel like Death of a Salesman is more complex than American dream. There are so many levels that its overwhelming, and there is no way we can find them all in an AP lit class - well, we can try.

  2. I think that this is good, your interactions with what is going on shows how great your learning skills are. I think that it will be good for discussion if you have a good understanding of DOS already on a deeper level. You can be the pioneer into the "wilderness of AP English".

  3. I think it's great that you're setting goals for yourself throughout the course. I know that it can be hard to search for subtleties in literature, but I think this will get easier as the year progresses.
